On July 9, the Senate of the Czech Parliament adopted a resolution in support of Belarus’s democratic forces and approved a call for the Czech Government to continue supporting Belarusians. The resolution was introduced by the Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Security, Pavel Fischer.
The resolution received near-unanimous support: 48 of the 49 senators present voted in favor, none voted against, and one abstained. The result confirms that support for a democratic Belarus remains an important priority for the Czech Republic.
Director of the Office of Belarus Democratic Forces in the Czech Republic, Kryścina Šyjanok: “It is truly important for Belarusians to know that they have partners in Europe who consistently stand up for our rights and freedom. We are sincerely grateful to the Czech Senate for this strong gesture of support and its principled position”.
