  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held a briefing for ambassadors to the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva

    February 19, 2026

In Geneva, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held a briefing for ambassadors to the United Nations Human Rights Council, organized for the delegations of European Union member states. The event took place with the support of the Delegation of the European Union to the United Nations in Geneva. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya was accompanied by her Advisor on Legal Affairs, Leanid Marozau.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya presented an updated assessment of the situation in Belarus and called for stronger international pressure on the Lukashenka regime, the maintenance and reinforcement of EU sanctions, greater support for political prisoners and their families, and the advancement of mechanisms to ensure accountability through international judicial bodies.

The discussion also addressed the protection of Belarusians in exile, humanitarian assistance for released political prisoners, and preparations for democratic change in Belarus.

“Without a free and democratic Belarus, there will be no long-term security in Europe. That is why it is crucial not to ease pressure on the regime, but to support Belarusian society and prepare for a Belarus after dictatorship”, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya emphasized.

The democratic forces expressed their gratitude to the Permanent Observer of the European Union to the UN in Geneva, Deike Potzel, as well as her Deputy, Michele Cervone d’Urso, for their assistance in organizing the briefing and their continued support.
