On November 27, during her visit to Germany, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya was honored with the Menschen in Europa Award.
The ceremony took place in Passau as part of the annual Menschen in Europa program, which recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to the defense of human rights and democratic values.
Yulia Navalnaya received the award alongside Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
In her speech, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya dedicated the award to all Belarusians and emphasized that it is the people who define Belarus and its future:
“It is the people who define Belarus and its future, not Lukashenka’s criminal regime. The people who bravely fight every day to make Belarus free, independent, and European. And today, I dedicate this award to my compatriots”.
The panel discussion “Courageous Women for Freedom and Democracy” took place before the award ceremony, where Ms. Tsikhanouskaya answered questions about the situation around Ukraine, her personal experience, the work and strategy of the democratic forces of Belarus, and support from Europe.
