Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is on a visit to Berlin, where she joined the ceremonial meeting of the Parliamentary Group “For Democratic Belarus” on the occasion of its launch.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya addressed the politicians and invited them to consider a new resolution on Belarus that would reflect the current situation and make the country one of the group’s priorities for 2026. She also shared several ideas for the group’s work:
“First, internships. Four young Belarusians have completed internships in four parliamentary factions of the Bundestag. I believe that next year, each faction could again host one or two young Belarusian politicians.
Second, godparents. We want to bring together MPs who serve as symbolic godparents for political prisoners in Belarus and invite former political prisoners or their families. The Bundestag has the largest number of “godparents” – it would be excellent if such a forum could take place in Berlin.
Third, International Alliance. The next meeting will take place in London in 2026, and we invite all of you to participate.
Fourth, the Belarusian diaspora in Germany. I propose establishing regular contacts between the diaspora and the Bundestag. They have many ideas but also many challenges, and they need your support.
Fifth, cooperation with the democratic forces. Let us establish collaboration between the group and our Coordination Council and the United Transitional Cabinet. We have prepared a calendar with ten key dates related to Belarus for 2026. I would like this to become part of the group’s work”.
