  • US Court granted political asylum and released Belaruskali strike committee leader from prison

    October 30, 2025

On October 29, the US Immigration Court ruled to grant political asylum to one of the leaders of the Belaruskali strike committee, Anatoli Bakun.

The state prosecutor waived the right to appeal, making the judge’s decision final – Anatoli will be released from immigration detention and will be able to remain in the United States permanently.

Anatoli Bakun is one of the leaders of the 2020 workers’ movement, a man who openly opposed the regime and paid for it with hundreds of days in detention and dismissal from his job. He was among those who demanded that Belaruskali’s international partners stop cooperating with the enterprise, where the regime persecuted workers for participating in the strike.

A supporting statement was prepared on behalf of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office and submitted to the relevant authorities and the American lawyer.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Advisor on Legal Affairs, Leanid Marozau, was personally present at the proceedings and testified as a witness.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office will continue to support those who have suffered under the regime and help them seek justice – wherever they are now.
