  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya attended a meeting at the New York University School of Law

    September 26, 2025

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya participated in a meeting at the New York University School of Law. The event brought together students, faculty, and members of the local Belarusian community in New York. Professor Richard Pildes delivered opening remarks, after which Siarhei Tsikhanouski addressed the audience.

The main part of the event took the form of a panel discussion, in which Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya participated. The discussion also included Professor Pildes, lawyer Hanna Matsieuskaya, and Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Chief Advisor, Franak Viacorka.

The discussion focused on the situation in Belarus, the impact of US policy on the release of political prisoners, and the prospects for the region. Speakers also answered questions from the audience.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Hope comes from the resilience and perseverance of Belarusians. Our journalists, activists, and human rights defenders – even in exile, under threat, with almost no resources – continue their work. They are fighting not for power but for the right to return home free. I am inspired by the political prisoners – people who have spent years in solitary confinement, endured torture and isolation. And yet, when they are released, they look me in the eyes and ask: ‘What can I do to help?’ With people like that, we cannot lose. Their courage gives me strength. I know that when the moment comes, Belarusians will rise again”.
