Germany has officially resumed issuing humanitarian visas for Belarusians after a reported suspension.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Advisor on Legal Affairs, Leanid Marozau: “We welcome Germany’s decision to resume issuing humanitarian visas for Belarusians. The democratic forces of Belarus and Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office immediately responded when the processing of applications was suspended. We worked with our German partners and raised this issue at all levels. Today, we see the result of these efforts.
We thank the German Foreign Office and members of the Bundestag and the European Parliament who stayed in close contact with us in recent days. This is an important step that will open the path to safety for thousands of our compatriots forced to flee their homeland because of repression.
The possibility of humanitarian admission to Germany literally changes people’s destinies, restoring their hope and sense of protection. Germany remains true to its values and ready to support people fighting for freedom and democracy. This is truly a powerful expression of human and political solidarity”.
