The Freedom March took place in Warsaw today to mark the fifth anniversary of the protests in Belarus. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and Siarhei Tsikhanouski joined the march, walking together with Belarusians through the central streets of the Polish capital.
At the final stop of the march, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya expressed words of gratitude and pride to Belarusians. She also called for being prepared for a new window of opportunity and maintaining unity for a free and independent Belarus.
“I don’t have an answer to the question of when our struggle will end. When the regime will fall. When the war will be over. When we will return home. But I believe that through our diligent work, we can and must bring this moment closer.
It is no coincidence that they say we are a nation of partisans. Even in the most difficult circumstances, we do not give up and do not cry that all is lost. We simply continue the struggle and eventually achieve our goals.
In the near future, the situation around Ukraine may change. And this new situation may open a new window of opportunity for us. We must be ready for it. And we must stand together. We may have different views but our goal is the same – a free and independent Belarus. So let’s move toward that goal together”.
