During today’s EESC plenary session in Brussels, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed, laying the foundation for cooperation between the European Economic and Social Committee and the democratic forces of Belarus.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “This commitment to cooperation and solidarity sends a message to all Belarusians: You are not alone – you are part of Europe. This is preparation for our country’s European future.
We must not wait for the regime to collapse. Together with the EESC, we are already beginning work on the transition period and legislation.
This memorandum strengthens the democratic forces, highlights the support of European institutions for Belarusians, and opens the door for practical preparations for change. We are opening a new chapter of international cooperation – with civil society, trade unions, businesses, and independent media. Let’s build strong ties, support journalists, and prepare workers and small businesses to operate effectively in the future European Belarus.
Five years ago, we chose Europe – and many paid the price for that choice by being imprisoned or forced into exile. But we remain faithful to that choice because our struggle is not for power, but for people.
Change doesn’t come overnight. But every step matters. And the step we took today is a very important one”.
