Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel. The parties discussed ways to support the Belarusian people, advance Belarus’ European integration, and hold the Lukashenka regime accountable for its crimes.
Minister Bettel announced that Luxembourg is joining the International Humanitarian Fund and has already allocated €250,000 to support the treatment and rehabilitation of political prisoners and victims of repression.
Mr. Bettel and Ms. Tsikhanouskaya also discussed:
- Approaches and mechanisms to secure release for political prisoners in Belarus;
- Residence legalization options for Belarusians in Luxembourg;
- The impact of the previously adopted Luxembourg Solutions and future cooperation;
- The potential appointment of a special envoy for Belarus.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “This is a strong signal of support for the Belarusian people. We thank Luxembourg for its principled stance and its backing at the Council of Europe and the UN. Its contribution to the International Humanitarian Fund will help those who have endured prison, torture, and persecution recover. I urge Luxembourg not to stop here – but to continue raising Belarus-related issues on international platforms and helping to find paths and solutions to secure release for political prisoners”.
