Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya continues her official visit to Brussels, where she joined the fourth meeting of the Belarus–European Union Consultative Group. In her opening remarks, the Belarusian leader reviewed the progress made in recent months and emphasized that everything the Consultative Group does, it does for the Belarusian people, who place their hope in this work. “We must meet their expectations”, she added.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “We have achieved a great deal together over the past six months.
We have begun the next phase of the Needs Assessment to better support our courageous journalists, human rights defenders, non-profit organizations, youth, cultural institutions, and initiatives.
We have strengthened strategic communications with Belarusians, and I am pleased to see that mentions of the European Union in our media are increasing.
We have led campaigns to secure the release of political prisoners, and these efforts have yielded results – we have witnessed the first releases.
We have worked to eliminate loopholes in sanctions, ensuring that the regime is held to account for its crimes.
Together, we have organized numerous events involving EU diplomats all across the world. The EU has also strongly supported our initiatives at the UN General Assembly, the Human Rights Council, the OSCE, and the European Political Community.
Belarus remains firmly on the international agenda, and I am confident that under the new EU leadership, our cooperation will not just continue but grow even stronger and more impactful”.
