As Germany celebrated the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya joined politicians, activists, and civil society figures to honor this momentous event, highlighting the importance of the fight for freedom and democracy.
The Berlin Wall, which once divided not only a city but also the lives of thousands, has become a symbol of victory over dictatorship and an inspiration for new generations fighting for a free and just world.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “For Belarusians, the Berlin Wall has deep symbolic significance. As the fall of the Berlin Wall proved, change can come when least expected, and we must be ready for it. We will continue our fight to make sure this change happens as soon as possible.
The Berlin Wall fell thanks to the courage of ordinary people – and walls of oppression in Belarus will fall in the same way. Every act of defiance, big or small, brings us one step closer.
Together, we will dismantle all the walls that separate us from a free and democratic future”.
A section of the wall was restored and repainted as part of the ceremony, symbolizing how the fall of the Berlin Wall allowed society to renew and rethink the values of freedom and unity.
