In an interview with Zerkalo, the Belarusian leader explained why control at the borders between Belarus and the EU has tightened and what developments the situation might take:
📌 “The situation at the border and the restrictions against Belarusians are the consequences of the Lukashenka regime’s policies, which have driven us into a political and economic union with Russia”.
📌 “If the regime was bothered with the interests of the citizens rather than its lust for power, none of this would have happened. But then the regime would not be a regime, and our country would be entirely different”.
📌 “Neither we nor anyone else can convince EU politicians to make decisions that they believe contradict their national security interests. I guess the European Union has reviewed various sanction circumvention schemes and decided to act more decisively”.
📌 “To convince the world to differentiate Belarusians and the regime, we need the efforts of all Belarusians, not just politicians. It is our collective responsibility to demonstrate that we do not support Lukashenka’s policies and oppose the war. We Belarusians must be seen and our voices heard”.
📌 “We are currently working to maintain passenger border crossings so as not to leave Belarusians alone with the dictator. Both Lithuania and Poland hear us. The Polish Foreign Minister, Radosław Sikorski, confirmed recently that citizens will not be forbidden from crossing the border”.
