From November 13 to 15, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is visiting Lisbon, where she will participate in the Web Summit. Today Ms. Tsikhanouskaya spoke in the Portuguese Assembly of the Republic (Parliament). During her speech, she launched the group of Friends of Belarus. Such groups already exist in 23 countries around the world – including a number of EU countries, as well as Norway, the US, the UK, and Ukraine.
The Belarusian leader emphasized several areas that need more active joint work. In particular, she spoke about recognition of the new Belarusian passport, support for political prisoners, and their rehabilitation after release.
“We hope that Portugal becomes our window to the world outside Europe. Portuguese-speaking countries play a big role in the world, their position on many issues is very important. We hope we can explain our position to our colleagues there”, noted Ms. Tsikhanouskaya.
