During the meeting with the Minister of National Defense of Portugal, Helena Carreiras, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya spoke about the Russian military presence in Belarus and the situation with nuclear weapons. She called on Portugal to take a principled stance in defending Belarus’ independence.
The parties discussed assistance to Belarusian volunteer fighters as part of the overall aid to Ukraine, as well as the possible regular exchange of security-related information.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya also asked for help in establishing contacts with countries in the Global South, particularly with Portuguese-speaking countries such as Brazil, Mozambique, and Angola.
