The Belarusian leader is on a working trip to Switzerland, where she participated in the session of the UN Human Rights Council today. The event was attended by more than 130 people representing over 50 countries.
During the session, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya focused on the situation with political prisoners and the humanitarian crisis in Belarus. The leader spoke about daily arrests, deaths of prisoners, and emphasized the need for decisive action from the democratic world to hold the Lukashenka regime and its accomplices accountable.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya also noted that Belarusians’ struggle is global and called for supporting those fighting for freedom:
“Countries that struggle for democracy and countries that already have it are like two different worlds. In democratic countries, the struggle for democracy is often romanticized. But the pursuit of democracy comes with a price of pain and tears.
I believe that every person in the world is responsible for democracy. If you want to defend democracy, you must help those who are fighting for it. Because this is not a local but a global struggle. I am convinced that the democratic world will show the dictators that they will never prevail”.
