Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is in Gdańsk on a working visit. Her program began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument to the shipyard workers of the city who lost their lives during the tragic events of December 1970, when the military used firearms to brutally suppress protests against the communist regime. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, together with European politicians, honored the memory of the dozens of victims.
The main event of the day was the opening of the Kościuszko Forum, dedicated to democratic transformations in Belarus and the region. The forum brought together prominent politicians, experts, and activists from more than a dozen European countries.
In her opening remarks, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya emphasized that the ideals for which Tadeusz Kościuszko (Tadevush Kastsiushka) fought – freedom, equality, and sovereignty – remain just as relevant today. She noted that independence and democracy require both internal resilience and international support:
“Just as Poland once walked its path to freedom, so too will Belarusians. This path may be long but it is the only path we must take. It is the only way to secure our survival and prosperity”.
