The first case is the strike at Belaruskali in August 2020, which the Belarusian court declared illegal and whose participants were repressed. In their complaint, members of the strike committee recount their politically motivated dismissal and torture during imprisonment.
The second case is the Nationwide Strike of October 2020, many of whose participants were fired and repressed. Three members of the Strike filed a complaint reciting their dismissal and reprisals.
These complaints were prepared and filed by Belarusian Respect-Protect-Fulfill human rights defenders. It should be noted that the first and last time the HRC considered a case on strikes was in 1986. The registration of two complaints at once is an important precedent that will influence the future of Belarus and other countries.
