On May 29-30, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya will be in Bratislava to speak at the GLOBSEC Forum. The forum will also be attended by the President of France, the President of the European Commission, the President of the European Parliament, the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, the Prime Minister of Lithuania, and other international leaders.
At the beginning of the visit, the Belarusian leader met with the President of Slovakia, Zuzana Čaputová. They discussed the stationing of nuclear weapons in Belarus and the need for a coordinated European strategy. They also talked about holding the regime accountable for the illegal displacement of Ukrainian children and the crackdown against Belarusians. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya emphasized the importance of supporting Belarusian media and civil society, monitoring the situation with political prisoners, and working for their release.
“We discussed the main issues. It is very important for us that Slovakia takes a firm position on Belarus. On the one hand, to continue the pressure and international isolation of Lukashenka, on the other hand, to support Belarusians fighting for freedom. I am grateful to Slovakia for its principled and consistent policy on Belarus,” Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya commented after the meeting.
