Anatoli Liabedzka: “For us, Georgia is a country where we are learning how to create deputy groups For a Democratic Belarus and how they will operate. These groups include both MPs and representatives of NGOs and the Belarusian diaspora. In Batumi, I held a number of meetings with deputies of the local government as well as the Belarusian diaspora”.
Here is a summary of the visit:
- Deputies of local governments, representing counties with large numbers of residents from Belarus, might join the group For a Democratic Belarus.
- Deputies of the Batumi Sakrebulo and the Adjara Supreme Council pledged to make the Belarusian issue part of their message to the voters. They also plan to involve local media.
- Most Belarusians are not engaged in organized groups. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office needs to think about improving the channels of communication with Belarusians of Georgia.
