“A verdict was pronounced today in the case of Victor Babariko. An insane time for a man who decided to go into politics and became one of the leaders who woke the country from a long sleep. 14 years for believing in an idea: one day it will be difficult for us to explain to our grandchildren that this actually happened. But Victor said that the country needs a good manager, and I know that there will come a time when such a manager will help us rebuild the country.
Today, I do not want to talk about repression and monstrous deadlines, because the regime does all this to kill in us any other thought, even if remotely similar to faith and hope. But for Victor – as for thousands of innocent people in prison – hope is most precious in our hearts. For that hope, he did not make a deal with the regime. And he still believes in us. But do we believe in ourselves? Victor Babarico has been in prison for over a year. And it is up to us and you whether this year turns to 14 years”.
The decision of the supreme «court» in the Babariko case is not subject to appeal. All political prisoners must be released. The mechanism for releasing and rehabilitating them is described in the draft Rehabilitation Act.
