Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office has launched an account on Signal. You can contact us at askoffice_chat.15 (be sure to enter the address correctly) or using the link.
To ensure your security, we have:
📎 configured all account settings to maximize data and request protection;
📎 blocked phone calls to accept only written requests;
📎 hidden the phone number in the profile – we only provide a profile link or nickname.
Due to an increase in phishing incidents on Signal, we have prepared recommendations for secure use of the messenger. They are especially relevant to Signal users from Belarus and other authoritarian countries.
📌 Set up a Signal PIN. This is different from a lock code. The Signal PIN is needed to restore your profile, settings, contacts, and the list of blocked numbers saved in the messenger when changing devices or reinstalling.
You can set the PIN during registration or change it in the settings. If you don’t have one and delete the messenger, all data only stored on your device will be lost. A PIN prevents someone from registering on Signal with your number, for instance, if it gets reassigned.
📌 Protect your conversations. Set a lock timeout in the settings, so Signal will require a code, fingerprint, or Face ID after each device lock.
📌 Disable link previews in message settings. Signal will not send a web request to the website that the link points to, which can be visible to your internet provider.
📌 Check linked devices. Signal allows you to chat from multiple devices simultaneously; you just need to link them to your account. Regularly check the list for any unknown devices and disconnect devices you don’t use.
📌 Protect voice calls. You can enable voice call relay through the messenger’s servers instead of direct connection with the other party. This will keep your IP address confidential.
Take care of your digital security. We look forward to your messages!
