Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “The pressure on students and teachers does not stop from the very beginning of the academic year. Teachers are dismissed, students are expelled, someone after that is taken into the army. Many have been behind bars for months.
And who's imprisoned? The bravest, the most active, the most persistent.
Imprisoned are those who defended the students — like Alana Gebremariam. She spent all autumn helping people who were trying to be expelled for desiring to live in free Belarus. She didn't leave the country, though she understood they could come for her.
Imprisoned are those who worked with children of their own free will and taught them to draw — like Yana Arabeika. She helped political prisoners and all detainees, helped volunteers and tried to support every Belarusian.
Imprisoned are those who tried to change Belarus for the better — like all political prisoners.
It is in our power to help them: we need to sign a surety and bring the possibility of releasing students at least until the trial.
What is required for this?
1. Choose a political prisoner for whom you give a guarantee (or for all at once).
2. Download and fill out the sample form.
