Today, the Lithuanian Seimas voted on the law on restrictive measures against citizens of Belarus and Russia. The vote overrode the veto of Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda and resulted in the adoption of the softer restrictions against Belarusians proposed by the Seimas. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's Advisor Anatoli Liabedzka was present at the Seimas to observe the voting.
“The veto of the Lithuanian President was overridden. I want to thank all the MPs. The main result is that the Seimas sees the division in Belarus and distinguishes the regime from the citizens, 9 million Belarusians. This is very important. Belarusians are not lumped together with Russians, who mostly support Putin. This will allow Belarusians to continue to stay in Lithuania, a comfortable country to live in.”
