Today in Brussels, the Cross-Party Forum “8+100” was launched, featuring speakers from the European Parliament and representatives of Belarusian and European political parties. During the Forum, discussions are planned on a common strategy vis-a-vis Belarus, ways to advance the European perspective for the country, and cooperation between Belarusian and European political parties.
The Belarusian leader addressed the participants, calling for considering the European perspective for Belarus:
“We all understand that only in the European Union can Belarus truly be free and independent. I know that joining it will take time. But we can start preparing for it already now. As the EU discusses the accession of Moldova and Ukraine, it is high time to discuss the European perspective for Belarus. I hope this will be part of your discussions today”.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya called on the participants to help hold the Lukashenka regime accountable for crimes against humanity and the kidnapping of Ukrainian children.
“Unlike governments, parliaments can call things by their names. Lukashenka is a criminal, not a president. Belarusians are not equal to the regime. And Belarus is not equal to Russia”, noted Ms. Tsikhanouskaya.
