Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar expressed her support for Belarus’ democratic forces and its people.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya congratulated Slovenia on winning the election for the UN Security Council seat against the Lukashenka regime and thanked the country for its support for Belarusian democratic forces in international organizations. The Belarusian leader spoke about the situation with the Wagner mercenaries and Russian troops in Belarus and emphasized the increasing threat to Belarus' independence.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya informed the President that democratic forces in Belarus have adopted a joint declaration in support of a European future for Belarus and asked Slovenia to support democratic Belarus in this regard. She also talked about the critical situation with political prisoners, the regime’s efforts to keep them incommunicado, and the need for measures to achieve their release.
“We have been working closely with Slovenia since 2020. Slovenia has proven that even small countries can do a lot on the international stage. Now we hope that Slovenia can advocate for Belarusians’ interests in the UN Security Council,” Ms. Tsikhanouskaya said.
