Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is on a working visit to Sweden, where she will receive the Anna Lindh Prize today. Prior to the award ceremony, she met with Minister of Defense, Pål Jonson.
They discussed the situation with the Russian military presence in Belarus, the deployment of nuclear weapons, and the regime’s recent provocations at the border. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya drew the minister's attention to direct threats to Belarusian independence and sovereignty. “We cannot allow Russia to absorb our country,” emphasized the Belarusian leader.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya called on the minister to support Belarusian volunteer fighters in Ukraine with equipment and non-lethal weapons. The parties also discussed possible cooperation between the United Transitional Cabinet and Sweden in military and political matters.
