  • Results of the Belarusian Anti-War Movement for June 1

    Any Belarusian can join the Movement and choose from numerous options to resist the war and Belarus' regime.  

    Here is an overview of the Movement on June 1. 

    Support for Ukrainians and Belarusians    

    • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya called on the European Union to introduce a visa-free regime for Belarusians and develop a “Marshall Plan” for post-Lukashenka Belarus.
    • “What kind of miracles do you expect from people who take great pleasure in seeing someone else's apartment trashed?” Darya Losik, political prisoner Ihar Losik's wife, commented on the Supreme Court decision to uphold the sentence on her husband (15 years in prison), Siarhei Tsikhanouski (18 years), and other defendants in their case.
    • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya had talks with President of Moldova Maia Sandu. They discussed the risks of escalation of the war, the need for decisive action by the international community to support Ukraine, the work of Belarusian companies (including IT) in Moldova, and the formation of a parliamentary Friends of Belarus group. 
    • Belarusians of Batumi, Georgia, held an anti-war rally in support of Ukraine.
    • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya released a statement on the suicide of Naftan worker Uladzimir Krysionok, allegedly caused by persecution by the regime: “Tomorrow I am meeting with the head of the Interior Ministry and the Foreign Minister of Slovakia, the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, delivering a speech at the GLOBSEC Global Security Forum, and giving a press conference after it. I will print out Uladzimir’s photo and take it with me to every meeting. After all, if politicians need a specific reason not to make deals with dictators, here it is”.
    • Volunteers of the DAR Humanitarian Aid Center and Pavel Latushka gave gifts to all adults and children from Ukrainian and Belarusian families currently living in A Country to Live in Foundation shelter. 
    • Belarusians of the Prague Support Team, Czechia, sent 20 helmet covers and 20 pouches for individual first-aid kits to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
    • Tbilisi Shelter City, in cooperation with the Free Belarus Center, will hold a workshop on June 18 for Belarusian human rights defenders and activists currently in Georgia. Learn more here.
    • The Center for Belarusian Solidarity is accepting applications for rehabilitation vacations for children of political prisoners (7 to 17 years old). 
    • On June 7, the Peramen Hub 2.0 will hold an online presentation of its future activities after its update, with founder of the Voice platform Pavel Liber, leader of the Honest People community Lena Zhivoglod, and other Belarusians speaking. 

    Resistance

    • A man set himself and a policeman on fire during interrogation in Shklou.
    • Residents of Kalodzishchy gathered for an action to inspire Belarusians to keep resisting.
    • Belarusians in Barauliany honored the memory of heroes at a partisan action.

    Sabotage

    • The Hajun monitoring project tracked the movements of Russian troops in Belarus for May 31.
    • Hajun also reviewed the state propaganda coverage of the war in Ukraine for May 31. Belarusian propagandists speculated that Russia conducts its “special military operation” to “save Ukraine”.

    Awareness campaign

    • Artsiom Praskalovich, Tatsiana Khomich, and Aliaksandr Azarau joined Anatoli Liabedzka’s anti-war Youtube stream to answer the most relevant questions.
    • Belarusians of Minsk released the new issue of their local underground newspaper.
