  • Belarusian volunteer Anisiya Kazliuk is safe. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Representative Valery Kavaleuski shared details about the incident in Ukraine

    June 24, 2022

Here is a snapshot of what happened to Anisiya Kazliuk in Ukraine on June 24.

    – The Belarusian human rights defender was detained, facing deportation and a fine for allegedly staying in Ukraine illegally. Anisiya could not undergo proper legalization as the procedure was unavailable due to the war.

    – Valery Kavaleuski addressed the Foreign Ministry, the State Migration Service, and the Chairman of the Committee on Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada Dmytro Lubenets. The latter assured Mr. Kavaleuski that Anisiya would not be deported from Ukraine and her passport would not be stamped, with only an administrative report drawn up and a symbolic fine imposed. And that was the case.

    – Anisiya Kazliuk will be allowed to pass the procedure to restore her legal status in Ukraine. The same was arranged for all Belarusians in Ukraine.

    – Valery Kavaleuski was in touch with Anisiya all this time to convey the algorithm on resolving the issue. This helped calm down the situation at the police station, as Anisiya was not correctly treated. Now the Belarusian has been released.

    – This was an unfortunate and unpleasant incident, but it can set an important precedent to prevent similar situations with Belarusians in the future.

Valery Kavaleuski explained how the Office managed to settle the situation in the video (in Belarusian).
