  • Results of the first day of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s working visit to London

    March 09, 2022

    On March 9, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya arrived in London, where she met with British Minister of State for Europe and North America James Cleverly (more), leader of the Labor Party Keir Starmer (more), Shadow Foreign Secretary David Lammy (more), Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the British House of Commons Tom Tugendhat (more).

    At the meetings, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya:

    – spoke about the Belarusian Anti-War Movement, aimed at resisting the Belarusian regime’s actions and opposing the Kremlin’s attack on Ukraine;
    – called to support Belarusian free media, which tell the truth about the situation in Belarus and the region, as well as assist Belarusian volunteers helping Ukrainians;
    – noted the importance of holding Lukashenka accountable for the crimes that he shares with Putin. Strong sanctions against the regime and its complete non-recognition are needed;
    – emphasized the importance of preventing Belarus from participating in hostilities against Ukraine, as this is a matter of security for the whole of Europe.

    In addition, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya met with the Belarusian diaspora, and later greeted the actors of the Belarus Free Theater, some of whom are Ukrainians who had lost their loved ones because of the war.

    The Belarusian leader also gave interviews to BBC and Channel 4, the UK’s largest TV channels.
