  • Peace, democracy, and perspectives from the Belarusian community discussed in Prato, Italy

    October 21, 2026

On October 17, the Director of the Belarusian Democratic Community Center in Florence and Head of the People’s Embassy of Belarus in Italy, Yuliya Yukhno, spoke at “A City of Many Voices” (Una città molteplice), a meeting organized by the Municipality of Prato as part of the “Prato — City for Peace” series of events.

The meeting focused on peace, armed conflicts, international security, integration, and coexistence among different communities. Ms. Yukhno spoke about the current situation in Belarus and the work of the Belarusian democratic community in Italy. She emphasized the integration of Belarusians into local society and cooperation with Italian authorities and civil society organizations.

Yuliya Yukhno called for protecting peace and democratic values: “Peace and democracy cannot be taken for granted. They are values that we must constantly defend, preserve, and strengthen through joint efforts. We must remember that the peace enjoyed by much of Europe today came at the cost of countless human lives. We have no right to forget these sacrifices, especially now, as the world once again faces wars and threats to security”.
