The date and location of the farewell ceremony for Aliaksandr Milinkievič have been announced. He was a prominent civic and political figure, the sole presidential candidate of the united democratic opposition in the 2006 election, a recipient of the Sakharov Prize, and Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Non-Staff Advisor on Promoting Belarus’s European Choice.
Mr. Milinkievič passed away on August 11 at the age of 79. The farewell ceremony and funeral will take place on August 22 in Warsaw.
Ceremony schedule:
- 10:00 — The coffin will be placed for viewing at the Archcathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist (Archikatedra św. Jana Chrzciciela);
- 12:00 — Funeral Mass at the Archcathedral;
- 15:00 — Burial at Powązki Military Cemetery (Cmentarz Wojskowy na Powązkach).
