    Accountability and Restoring Justice

Justice requires restoring the rights of those who have suffered, ensuring accountability for crimes committed, and guaranteeing that violence, repression, and political persecution never happen again.

This section brings together positions on the rehabilitation and support for those affected, the investigation of gross human rights violations, and the accountability of the perpetrators. The materials cover national and international justice mechanisms, the protection of people in exile, the right to truth and reparations, and the conditions necessary for national reconciliation.

Declaration on Accountability and Restoring Justice

This declaration, adopted at the New Belarus Conference 2024, links democratic transformation and national reconciliation to restoring the rights of victims and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable. It calls for the use of international justice mechanisms, including the International Criminal Court, universal jurisdiction, and the International Court of Justice. It also affirms that rehabilitation and judicial proceedings must take place without revenge or political persecution, in accordance with international standards and with full respect for the rights to defense and appeal.

Statement on Achieving Justice in Belarus

This statement, adopted at the New Belarus Conference 2025, affirms that national reconciliation is possible only after the rights of those affected by international crimes have been restored and those responsible have been held accountable. The democratic forces call on international partners to provide the International Criminal Court with information on the persecution of Belarusians, support people in exile and those affected by transnational repression, and establish an international coalition to advance justice and restore justice in Belarus.
