During the high-level week of the UN General Assembly, the US Deputy Secretary of State, Kurt Campbell, officially welcomed the Belarusian leader in Washington.
During the meeting, the parties discussed:
📌 Ways to achieve the release of political prisoners in Belarus, including those on the humanitarian list;
📌 Support for the repressed, civil society, and independent media, including financial assistance;
📌 Support for initiatives aimed at strengthening Belarusian national identity;
📌 Continuation of the US–Belarus Strategic Dialogue;
📌 The threat of Belarus being drawn into the war;
📌 Loopholes in sanctions that need to be closed;
📌 Accountability for those involved in repression;
📌 Political and diplomatic contacts with third countries and international organizations.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “This was a practical meeting. First and foremost, we discussed steps toward the release of political prisoners and the end of repression. I am glad that our views on the situation align and that the US continues to prioritize this issue. It is also important that some of the ideas and projects we discussed within the Strategic Dialogue are already underway. I am grateful to the US for its consistent stance, solidarity, and support”.
