The Belarusian leader will join the European Political Community Summit, which will be held on July 18 in the United Kingdom. The event will be attended by 46 European state leaders, as well as the leaders of the European Union, OSCE, Council of Europe, and NATO. The participants will include Charles Michel, Olaf Scholz, Emmanuel Macron, Giorgia Meloni, as well as Nikol Pashinyan from Armenia, Ilham Aliyev from Azerbaijan, and Aleksandar Vučić from Serbia. The new UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, invited Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya as a special guest.
During the summit, the Belarusian leader will focus on support for Belarusians, ways to protect Belarus’ independence, the release of political prisoners, and the European future of Belarus.
“This invitation is a sign of solidarity with the Belarusian people, with our political prisoners. It is a message of support for Belarusians who see their country as a free, democratic, and European state. Participation in the summit will allow us to remind everyone of Belarusians’ struggle for freedom and discuss ways to secure the release of our political prisoners. I would like Belarus to be seen as a partner because the regime is not Belarus. The Belarusian people are”, notes Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya before the event.
Earlier, the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling for inviting the democratic forces of Belarus to participate in the work of the European Political Community and granting them observer status.
