During her working visit to Berlin, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with Germany’s Minister of Education, Bettina Stark-Watzinger. The meeting was a significant step in advancing educational opportunities for Belarusians in Germany. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya was accompanied by Pavel Latushka and Alina Koushyk of the United Transitional Cabinet.
Germany currently offers 156 scholarships and grants to Belarusian students and researchers. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya urged an increase in the number of visas, scholarships, and educational programs available to Belarusians, and discussed expanding DAAD programs.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya also called for suspending the requirement for Belarusian students to provide documents that need to be obtained in Belarus so that more young people can continue their education abroad without compromising their safety.
She added that the expansion of educational opportunities has been emphasized in Bundestag and PACE resolutions in Luxembourg, which are aimed at ensuring Belarusians’ right to education.
