The Belarusian leader spoke at the opening of the Third Conference of the Belarusian Diaspora. Guests of the event represent 21 countries and over 100 initiatives and organizations.
In her welcome speech, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya emphasized that no one but Belarusians can solve their own problems:
📌 “We, Belarusians, tend to underestimate ourselves. We may think that we are not enough, that we have no influence. Many get disappointed, give up, abandon the cause. But we only have no influence when we do nothing”.
📌 “I am perfectly aware that many want to return at last to living a calm, measured life. But if we move with the flow of routine, we risk not only losing our country and our people, but also ourselves”.
📌 “What Belarusians abroad should do is provide practical assistance to those in Belarus and defend Belarusian interests abroad, not just show compassion. Support families of political prisoners. Help those who have suffered persecution and lost their jobs and homes. Advocate for visas and international assistance. Fight for accountability for the regime’s criminals. And of course, assist Ukraine and bring its victory closer”.
📌 “We are a truly powerful force. Perhaps, we just lack organization. But nothing can stop us from improving our work. And that’s why we gathered here today”.
