Last week, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's Advisor for Education and Science, Tatiana Shchyttsova, held a series of lectures and seminars in Germany. They took place in gymnasiums, public venues, and at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.
Tatiana Shchyttsova spoke about the history of Belarus, the revolution and protests of 2020, as well as about the activities of Belarusian democratic forces. She also focused on political prisoners and repressed people, including not only students but also scientists and teachers.
Ms. Shchyttsova noted that the lectures were, in a sense, a useful practice of de-imperialization, as listeners and students admitted that they changed their perception of Eastern Europe.
“Unfortunately, Eastern Europe is always right away associated with Russia, so singling out Belarus as a separate state with its own history and language was something really new for the German audience”, said Ms. Shchyttsova.
