  • Belarus at the Munich Security Conference – an issue that must resonate worldwide

    February 15, 2025

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya began her participation in the Munich Security Conference by joining the panel “Belarus Beyond 2025 Elections: Catalyst For Change Or Pawn”. The panel brought together influential European politicians, diplomats, and experts to analyze Belarus’ future in the evolving geopolitical context.

The discussion focused on the following questions:

    • Should Belarus be viewed through the lens of regional security?
    • How does the recent sham election impact Belarus’ relations with Russia and the West?
    • How could a democratic change be achieved, and how can the West support it?

In her concluding remarks, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya summarized:

“What are our interests? They are clear. We need a stable and just world. This is only possible with Belarus being a sovereign and democratic country. To achieve this, we must weaken Russia’s influence and its grip on our territory. We demand the withdrawal of Russian troops not only from Ukraine but also from our land.

Belarus must democratize. As long as the dictator remains unaccountable to his people, he will continue to serve Putin, trading away Belarus’ sovereignty for his own political survival. Only a true political transition, through a free and fair election, can guarantee Belarus’ sovereignty and lasting peace”.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya emphasized that Belarusians must fight for their right to determine their own future, highlighting the crucial role of international support in this process. She called on the West to take an active role in supporting democratic change in Belarus and ensuring security in the region.
