  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Only democratically elected leadership in Belarus can guarantee security for Ukraine and our other neighbors”

    September 26, 2024

    The UN General Assembly commenced in New York on September 23. The Belarusian leader, who is on a working visit to the United States, attended the event, where the sessions, among other issues, focused on the war in Ukraine, peace negotiations, and regional security.

    In the new video, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya shares the position she conveyed at the General Assembly:

    “We support Ukraine’s peace formula. The war must end. Ukraine must regain its territories, and those responsible for the war must be held to account.

    However, it is crucial for Belarusians that any agreement also considers our national interests. That’s why at the General Assembly, we insisted that Russian troops must be withdrawn from both Ukraine and Belarus, along with Russian nuclear weapons. The military and political agreements between Minsk and Moscow after 2020 must be annulled.

    The path to lasting peace must include:

    📎 The release of Belarusian political prisoners;
    📎 Free and fair elections in Belarus under international supervision;
    📎 A constitutional reform.

    Only democratically elected leadership in Belarus can guarantee the security of Ukraine and our other neighbors”.
