One of the discussions during the EPP Political Assembly focused on Belarus and was attended by members of Belarus’ United Civic Party, “For Freedom” movement, and the Belarusian Christian Democracy.
As a result of the assembly, the European People's Party supported the democratic forces’ Declaration on the Membership of Belarus in the European Union, adopted at the New Belarus Conference 2023 in Warsaw.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's Advisor for the Constitutional Reform and Interparliamentary Cooperation, Anatoli Liabedzka, commented on the assembly: “The European People's Party is the largest and most influential political force in Europe. Members of the EPP lead 20 governments of EU member states and 6 governments outside the EU. The EPP's support for the Declaration on the Membership of Belarus in the European Union is a critical first step. Now is the time for us to take action”.
