Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez welcomed Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya at the European Political Community Summit in Granada. The Belarusian leader thanked Mr. Sánchez for the invitation. She also expressed appreciation for Spain’s efforts to support the families of political prisoners, as well as its decision not to suspend visa issuance in Minsk, with the country granting about 7,000 visas last year.
Mr. Sánchez talked about the results of the foreign ministers' meeting on the situation of Belarusians in exile and assured Ms. Tsikhanouskaya that a solution will be developed to allow exiled Belarusians to stay in their countries of residence without risking deportation.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya also called on Spain to support the project of the new Belarusian passport, which would help Belarusians resolve the legalization of stay issues in view of the regime’s suspension of consular services abroad.
