  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s meetings during Warsaw Security Forum

    Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’ held a series of meetings with international politicians at the Warsaw Security Forum. Here is a brief summary of what she discussed during the meetings.

    – Meeting with US Permanent Representative to the OSCE Michael Carpenter

    Mr. Carpenter announced the establishment of the OSCE group of Friends of Democratic Belarus, which includes representatives of 10 states, and noted that the group will expand.

    – Meeting with Slovak Minister of Foreign Affairs Miroslav Wlachovský

    With Minister Miroslav Wlachovský, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya discussed Slovakia's support for Belarusian initiatives and assistance to Belarusians, the situation with political prisoners, and the Russian presence in Belarus.

    – Meeting with Norbert Röttgen, member of the Bundestag and CDU/CSU leader

    “I conveyed our desire to see more decisive action from the German parliament and government. We discussed the Inter-Parliamentary Conference, which we are jointly organizing with the Bundestag on November 8 in Berlin. We intend to bring together groups of Friends of Belarus from around the world and create a coalition of these groups”, commented Ms. Tsikhanouskaya on the meeting.

    – Meeting with British MP Stephen Doughty

    The parties discussed the Labour Party’s support for the Belarusian democratic movement and union representatives, especially their imprisoned leaders and activists. The Belarusian leader noted that Britain substantially supports independent media and initiatives to hold the regime accountable. Mr. Doughty and Ms. Tsikhaouskaya also discussed her visit to London scheduled for mid-October.

    – Meeting with Austrian Minister of Justice Alma Zadić

    Ms. Zadić and Ms. Tsikhanouskaya discussed the international investigation into the kidnapping of Ukrainian children, as well as the possibility of criminal cases under universal jurisdiction. An agreement was reached to pool efforts and bring lawyers to cooperate in this direction. Ms. Zadić will raise the issue of Belarus with justice ministers of other EU countries.

    – Meeting with the OSCE Moscow Mechanism rapporteur Professor Hervé Ascensio

    The Moscow Mechanism of the OSCE has collected evidence of the Lukashenka regime’s human rights violations and deliberate efforts to annihilate civil society. The report names a number of demands to the regime that have not been met.
