Lukashenka’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has initiated a criminal case against the people who organized and participated in the Marathon of Solidarity with Political Prisoners in July.
United Transitional Cabinet Representative on Social Policy Volha Harbunova highlighted: “The Solidarity Marathon attracted donations from 86 countries around the world. I was surprised by how international the donations were. We could not even expect to see donations from some of the countries. Donations came from all continents, from different corners of the world, from remote islands… All this shows the power of solidarity, though we will not name all the places for the safety of those who donated. So the regime will have to work really hard”.
Ms. Harbunova named some other statistics too:
- A total of 14,655 donations were made by 11,428 donors.
- The leading countries in terms of number of donations were: Poland (6383), Lithuania (1463), USA (1333), Germany (1008).
- The top 5 countries in terms of total donations were: Poland (€200,563), USA (€89,740), Lithuania (€55,130), Germany (€39,131), UK (€25,790).
