The meetings took place in Luxembourg on Sunday evening. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya thanked the Ministers for their united, clear and strong position on the regime and for the support of all 27 EU countries for the 4th Sanctions Package.
- Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya thanked the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn, for failing to recognize Lukashenka and refusing to hand him the credentials. In his turn, the Minister assured Ms. Tsikhanouskaya for his unequivocal support for the Belarusians and for the comprehensive Plan of Economic Assistance of Belarus.
- In a conversation with the Foreign Minister of Belgium, Sophie Wilmes, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya raised the issue of more effective sanctions, maximum pressure on the regime’s “purses” and further steps after the Council of Foreign Ministers of the European Union.
- The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, Angers Logar, called for putting Belarus on the EU agenda, “Democracy in Belarus can become a common EU success story”. They also discussed the participation of Belarus in the Eastern Partnership Summit – Belarus can represent democratic forces.
Tsikhanouskaya: “Belarus unites the Belarusians themselves and all of Europe. All 27 EU countries unanimously say that it is necessary to release political prisoners and hold free elections. I am glad that we have so many friends”.
Today Svetlana Tsikhanouskaya will address the EU Foreign Ministers with an address. She will answer their questions, after which the Foreign Ministries must decide on sanctions against the regime and its accomplices.
