  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “The regime must be held accountable to the people of Belarus”

    October 04, 2023

The Belarusian leader participated in an ISANS event on holding those responsible for crimes against Belarusians and Ukrainians accountable. The event was also attended by Ms. Tsikhanouskaya's Advisor on Legal Affairs Kristina Rikhter, Belarusian lawyers, and several foreign experts.

During her speech, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya noted: “Gathering data about human rights violations will stimulate our international partners to exercise their mandate. All collected information will inform eventual trials in the International Criminal Court or the special tribunals. We should make sure that the regime is accountable not only internationally but also to the people of Belarus”.

On her part, Kristina Rikhter addressed the international community: “Crimes against humanity and involvement in military aggression are not actions that can be overlooked. Only by acting decisively and taking measures to hold the perpetrators to account can we resist a dictatorship that simply must not exist in the 21st century”.
