On the second day of the Council of Europe Summit, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya joined the CoE plenary session and met with the Prime Minister of Portugal, President of Finland, Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland, and President of the Conference of International Non-Governmental Organisations at the Council of Europe.
During the general discussion, the Prime Minister of Luxembourg and the Spanish Foreign Minister welcomed Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and her participation in the summit. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya also held several private meetings focusing on the release of political prisoners and the announced stationing of nuclear weapons in Belarus. The summit's final act included a reference to Belarus, a call to support the Contact Group between the Council of Europe and Belarus’ democratic forces and evidence of the Lukashenka regime's complicity in the deportation of Ukrainian children.
This cooperation is the first of its kind in the history of the Council of Europe as an intergovernmental organization. This testifies to the support for the Belarusian people who voted for and defended democracy and freedom in 2020.
