Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “The Belarusian Helsinki Committee has been granted consultative status at the UN Economic and Social Council. From now on, the BHC is allowed to take part in events and conferences held within the UN, make oral and written statements, and have access to the UN grounds. The regime had liquidated the BHC in an attempt to silence human rights defenders, who now gained access to a major international platform instead.
I want to thank the BHC for their work, because now the voice of the Belarusians will be heard at the UN – and now Lukashenka's Foreign Ministry cannot lie about "sustainable development", manifested in hundreds of NGOs destroyed, 50,000 arrested and thousands of Belarusians imprisoned on political grounds.
