  • Results of the work of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office for the week of October 18-24

    October 24, 2021

A new wave of the pandemic – and vaccination

    – Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, joined by Belarusian Medical Solidarity Foundation coordinator Andrei Tkachou, “eHealth” project cofounder Uladzimir Svirkou, doctor Volha Sadouskaya and head of OST Public Outreach Alexandra Logvinova, held a live stream on the new wave of the pandemic in Belarus and the state of healthcare.

The live stream covered the following issues:

    • Why are doctors massively dismissed in the midst of a pandemic, and the real statistics are not published?
    • How to get a medical consultation at “eHealth”?
    • Which vaccines are trustworthy, and which vaccine did Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya take?

Watch full stream recording on Youtube or the key points on Instagram. Live streams on issues that are important for Belarusians will be held regularly. Belarusians can suggest a topic for the next discussions via the Office chatbot

    – Ms. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya called upon Belarusians to care for their health since the government doesn’t. “I am asking you to wear masks and take any vaccine available to you. Keep social distance and work from home if you can”.

    Mutual assistance and support

    – Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya appointed Tatiana Shchyttsova as Representative on Education and Science. She will be coordinating assistance to the repressed students, school and university teachers, scientists and elaborating new solutions and reforms in education and science. In an interview with Nasha Niva, Ms. Shchyttsova told about herself and her work.

    – Ms. Tsikhanouskaya and the head of OST Public Outreach, Alexandra Logvinova, shared the latest news told by factory workers, doctors, and activists during the working calls. They explained why we are not aware of all the repressions, told how and where to seek help securely, and outlined the position of the democratic forces on the planned constitutional referendum.

    – As part of the “Two Easy Steps” information campaign dedicated to the Workers’ Movement and Peramoga Plan, volunteers of the Office held calls with representatives of these initiatives. ByPol and Peramoga Plan representative Aleh Talerchyk gave an update on how the plan is being prepared and how they estimate the resources of the participants. The Peramoga Plan is meant to create a mobilization reserve and, at the right time, mobilize the people of Belarus. Any Belarusian can join the Peramoga Plan via its chatbot.

The Workers’ Movement representative Yury Ravavoi assessed the chances of a large-scale strike. He urged to distribute flyers and stickers, calling to mobilize and join the Workers’ Movement that unites all working Belarusians.

    Work on economic issues

    – “The regime preferred to save the economy, not people – but failed to save both”. Valery Kavaleuski, Head of the Cabinet, and Ales Aliakhnovich, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya’s Representative for Economics, talked about the state of the Belarusian economy, the dynamics of the Belarusian ruble exchange rate, and discussed if the state can still fulfill its obligations to citizens without a transit of power.

    – Iryna Sazanovich, a member of the OST economic group, explained how the pension system functions and what problems it faces. “The pensions are based on the earnings of the working people. As long as their salaries are low, the pensions will remain low”.

    International Work

    – Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Representative for the Constitutional Reform and Parliamentary Cooperation, Anatoli Liabedzka, met with the French Ambassador to Belarus, who refused to hand over his credentials to Lukashenka. Nicolas de Lacoste has left the country after the Belarus government ordered him out. Mr. Liabedzka also held a meeting in the Seimas of Lithuania with representatives of the parliament. Together, they discussed how to support political prisoners and assist the Belarusian diaspora.

    – Ms. Tsikhanouskaya held a call with the diaspora. During the call, leader of democratic Belarus declared November 27 the Day of Solidarity with Belarus Political Prisoners. Such events help to keep Belarus on the international agenda and in the media. Besides, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya and diaspora representatives discussed the Global Congress of Belarusians and the democratic forces’ position on the planned constitutional referendum.

    – Ms. Tsikhanouskaya gave interviews on the situation in Belarus to WION (India), Aftonbladet (Sweden), Dozhd (Russia), Radio Liberty (Belarus).

The Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya urges Belarusians to wear masks, take any vaccines available, keep social distance, and, if possible, work from home. Stay safe and take care of the people who surround you!
