Conference of the Belarusian diaspora. On April 22-23, Vilnius will host the Conference of Belarusians of the World II, initiated by the Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. Read more about it at the link.
Summit for Democracy. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and Natallia Pinchuk, wife of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ales Bialiatski, spoke at the Summit for Democracy, organized by the US President. Later, Joe Biden mentioned Belarusians in his speech.
Visit to the United States. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya finished her visit to the United States, during which she and her team met with American politicians and representatives of various organizations. During the last days of the visit, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with Jake Sullivan, national security advisor to the US President, and with diplomats from 35 countries. She also recorded a video for Belarusians explaining the outcomes of the visit.
Hearings at the UN Security Council. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya sent a letter to the UN Security Council “Regarding the Deployment of Russian Nuclear Forces on the Territory of Belarus.” The letter was handed over to all participants of the meeting on March 31 and incorporated in the minutes.
Meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of France. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya received French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna in her office and proposed to bring the issue of the threat to the independence of Belarus to the UN Security Council and General Assembly.
Cooperation with PACE. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with the PACE member assigned to prepare the report on “Addressing the specific challenges faced by the Belarusians in exile.”
Solidarity with political prisoners. On March 30, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskayaya met with the wife of Nobel laureate Ales Bialiatski, who is now behind bars. She also commented on the arrest of the son of the Advisor for the Constitutional Reform and Interparliamentary Cooperation Anatoli Liabiedzka.
Conversations with Belarusians. On Friday, March 31, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held personal conversations with Belarusians. They are held every week and every Belarusian can sign up for it.
Travel document in Poland. From June 2023, Belarusians staying in Poland will be eligible to receive a travel document for free. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskayaya’s Advisor on Legal Issues Kristina Rikhter commented on the changes in the Polish legislation on travel documents.
Educational opportunities for Belarusians. The Office’s team on education and science, headed by Tatiana Shchytsova, published the monthly Asveta digest, which covers the recent events and international opportunities for Belarusian students and researchers. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya also commented on the visits of propagandists with lectures to Belarusian universities: “Propagandists in universities are a troubling sign of where Belarus is headed.”
New Belarus. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya told Belarusians about the New Belarus app and its features. The app is available for Android and iOS and allows Belarusians all across the globe to stay in touch, find Belarusian businesses, organize events, and more.
“Dreams of Belarus.” Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya attended the “Dreams of Belarus” play at the invitation of the Razam Initiative.
Expert discussion. On March 30, the Research Center of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office and the Oxford Belarus Observatory held a webinar on “Repressions and cultural resistance: How to help Belarusians fight cultural oppression?” Alina Koushyk, Tatsiana Astrouskaya, Julia Cimafejeva, and Siarhei Budkin took part as experts.
Media. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya was interviewed by Fox News (USA, International), CNN (International), The Christian Science Monitor (USA), and Belfer Center (USA).
